President’s Role in Gas Prices assignment

EPCA and other statutes allow the President to permit crude oil export in circumstances where the President determines that such exports are in the national interest. But the President actually has little control over prices. OPEC controls gas prices. The way to change gas prices is to change our oil consumption. Gas prices have dropped because OPEC saw the threat of new oil in the US. They tried to lower prices and keep producing oil, to run American gas companies out of business. It’s going back up now because American oil companies are shutting down.
